For the last few years everyone, including us here at iLoveMyBBQ.com have been raving about Kettle BBQ’s but there seems to be a resurgence in the popularity of Oildrum and Barrel Barbecues and so we decided to have a look around the internet to see what Oildrum BBQ’s are about and more importantly, what they cost.
As ever, we have stuck to the mainstream national online retailers so that you can be sure that you will be buying safely and securely.
Oildrum and Barrel BBQ’s are a big favourite of mine, especially when catering for large numbers as the grills are often much wider than the more traditional grills and this means you can have different temperatures at one end of the grill to the other. This is very handy for keeping food warm once it is cooked, and also means you can more easily cater for veggies - just make sure you don’t use the same tools for the meat and the veggie food!
First up is B&Q. They have a very nice looking and very cheap Edmonton Half Barrell BBQ that costs a very respectable £69.98. With a grill size of over 1.3m I would think that it can easily cater for 10 hungry guests. The Edmonton’s grill is divided in two which means you can ensure that vegetarians don’t have to worry about meat juices touching their rabbit food, or alternatively, you can have less coals on one half and, as mentioned above, use it as a place to keep your favourite BBQ recipes warm, rather than continuing to cook the food.
Unfortunately that is it for B&Q so next we took a look at Drinkstuff.
The same as B&Q, Drinkstuff only has one Oildrum/Barrel BBQ on offer and it the portable pink one we wrote about yesterday. The Pink and Black Portable Barrel BBQ costs just £17.96 and looks very cute indeed.
It is nowhere near as big as some of the other Oildrum or Barrel BBQ’s we are featuring in this post, but nonetheless it does a great job and has the added bonus of being easy to carry about.
When we looked at Homebase all of its Oildrum or Barrel barbecues were out of stock which was rubbish, but obviously shows how popular they are.
Going to one of our favourite BBQ stores, Amazon, we again found that the number of Oil Drum and Barrell BBQ’s was quite low, but we did like this Landman 11543 Oil Drum BBQ that costs only £88.53. It is not quite as wide as the Edmonton Half Barrel BBQ from B&Q but I think it would still cater for 10 at a push and once again has seperated areas so you can alternate your charcoal temperatures.
All in all, although there is not a wide selection of Barrel or Oil Drum BBQ’s on the market at the present time, those that are about are very impressive. If I was looking to buy an oildrum barbecue I would probably go for the Edmonton Half Barrel BBQ from B&Q as it is a cheap price, has excellent build quality and would look very impressive in your BBQ Zone.
